Continuing the work of Mary McLeod Bethune, the founder of NCNW, and our national leader, President Emerita Dorothy I. Height, we deliver local programs in the areas of Voter Registration, Health Care, Unfettered Education, Youth Leadership Development, and Support to Women Organizations in Africa. 


Local Service Programs and Initiatives

  • A tutorial, enrichment, and leadership training program -- The Mary McLeod Bethune Institute (MMBI). This project is ongoing.
  • An annual banquet/fundraiser honoring Women of Courage and Conviction.
  • A hands-on mathematics and science enrichment program at the Rotenberg School, a Department of Youth Services facility in North Chelmsford for neglected and delinquent teenage girls (1992 - 2000)
  • A Walk for Breast Cancer and a donation to the American Cancer Society
  • A Walk for Multiple Sclerosis and a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society
  • Donations to Alternative House, a shelter for battered women and children in the Lowell area
  • Participation in LEXFEST, an annual multicultural celebration in Lexington, Massachusetts
  • A book and discussion group program for incarcerated women at MCI Framingham (1992 - 1994)
  • Advance civil rights, through voter registration – clearing house for information & training on the 2000 census.
  • Voter training, education and participation on the "get out to vote" program in the Boston area.
  • Health Care project, including strategic collaboration with the Massachusetts AIDS Coalition and Massachusetts General Hospital on the black HIV/AIDS epidemic in greater Boston.
  • The BookMarks Program is a free book distribution service that provides young children with books that can be read to them or be read on their own.
