"Big
for A Day Career Awareness Program" with Big Sisters, Inc.
This program inspired young women from the Burke
School in Roxbury, MA, and little sisters accompanied by their
big sisters from the Big Sister Organization to reach for the
stars when planning for their careers. Panelists whose careers
ranged from CEO of the Big Sister Organization, to CEO of a
thriving Real Estate office, a librarian who works outside the
conventional library, a medical researcher who works on the
leading edge of medical technology, a doctoral student who is a
biology researcher and minister, and a computer technologist
educator who encouraged the audience to widen their search for
careers into science.
The successful program was held on Saturday, April 28, 2007 12:00 PM
at
Roche Brothers Community Center, 1800 Center Street, West
Roxbury. After the program, everyone was treated to pizza
and a choice of books from the NCNW BookMarks program. The Young
women from the Phineas Bates School in West Roxbury
accompanied by their principal,
Catherine James were happy to distribute the books to their
classmates. This program was organized by Charlene Greene, Vice
President of Programs and Mimi Jones. To view photos from

NCNW-GBS Distributes
free books through
BookMarks Program
The
BookMarks Program
is a book distribution service of the Boston Section of
National Council of Negro Women. The service provides young
children with books that can be read to them or be read on
their own. The books are distributed to individuals or
organizations that care for or educate children. Most of
the books are for pre-school children. We also have many
books for kindergarten through 8th grades.
Some of the books are brand new and some are slightly used.
All of the books are well known and are highly desirable.
NCNW-GBS will
give books away to adults/children who need and want them.
All that is required is a letter of request on official
stationery, followed by a signed form acknowledging receipt
of the books. Please help us spread the word about this
free service
to your
churches and organizations. To view the BookMarks flyer

There is
no cost for this service.
