Living the Dream Award 2011

The Lura Smith Fund - Middlesex Community College Foundation was founded by the Lura Smith Family of Lowell, Massachusetts.  The Fund advances a mission of presenting events, educational and scholarships opportunities within the Greater Lowell Community that reflect the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Martin Luther King Day, January 17th, 2011, The Greater Boston Section of the National Council of Negro Women received the “LIVING THE DREAM AWARD” . The award was created  in 2002, by the Lura Smith Fund based on Dr. King's continually questioning the depths of his faith and the limits of his wisdom. He was fired by a vision of equality for people everywhere.  It is in this spirit that this award is presented annually to an individual or group who has labored to embrace Dr. King’s vision. GBS-NCNW is extremely honored to receive this award.
